Graeme Souness calls out the press with powerful Rangers message

If one Rangers man is representing the club well and speaking for the fans, it’s Graeme Souness.

Loved and respected among the support for his ‘staunch’ straight-talking and honesty, Souness has been doing the media duties recently, but is gloriously direct with how anti-Rangers the press is, and how not all of Scotland is united behind the club’s bid to bring back the Europa League.

His bluntness in repeating Ally’s famous messages of 2012, of effecting confirming that a lot of people in Scotland don’t like Rangers, don’t want us to win, and that the press are salivating at the gills to produce negative headlines is bang on, and frankly needed to be said by someone representing the club.

Souness is one of us all the way – a boyhood fan who came home to manage and play for us, at the same time, of course, and now while a lot of his punditry is from a Liverpool angle (we know how Sky love Liverpool) he is primarily a Bear, and we will listen to what he has to say.

And we love his honesty.

Sure, his ‘behave yourselves’ line does feel a bit corporate and put on him by the board, but the message is fair. And the extras where he calls out Scotland as effectively anti-Rangers is dead on.

Just this quote shows his heart is in Govan:

“The recent Europa League semi-final win over RB Leipzig was the greatest night of football I’ve witnessed as a Rangers man since I first went to games six decades ago.”

And this is why we respect him and take him seriously.

At least someone from our club is willing to say it as it is.
