LOSC boss Jocelyn Gourvennec was a happy man after his side kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 0-0 draw with Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Tuesday night.

LOSC have had an up-and-down start to the season under new coach Gourvennec, following up on the Trophée des Champions win over Paris Saint-Germain by taking just five points from their first five Ligue 1 Uber Eats matches, but Les Dogues turned in a dominant display against Wolfsburg, who went down to ten men after defender John Brooks earned a second yellow just after the hour-mark (62').

'Real quality' "I'm satisfied with how we played against the Bundesliga leaders. We put ourselves in European mode and we raised the bar. The Champions League is a higher level," crowed Gourvennec. "We had to stay compact and strong defence but we also had to cause them problems at the back. We can only reproach ourselves for not having finished our moves better. And when we did, it came down to a question of centimetres. But we showed that we could produce some real quality." LOSC did have chances to win it, with Jonathan David seeing a goal ruled out - after it was ruled that young Englishman Angel Gomes hadn't managed to prevent the ball from going into touch before the Canada striker has beaten John Brooks and put the ball in the back of the net (48') - and Gourvennec was please with how his side responded to their disappointing defeat to Lorient in Ligue 1 Uber Eats on Friday night.

'The real LOSC' "We were a real force in this match, and we represented LOSC and Ligue 1 well. We are really giving 300% in the Champions League. The frustration that can arise from matches like last Friday's in Lorient can be wiped out by this type of match, and we have to cultivate that," said the proud coach. "We saw the real LOSC tonight." LOSC's next challenge comes with Saturday's Derby du Nord away to bitter Ligue 1 Uber Eats rivals RC Lens.
