Gotham FC vs Tigres UANL Femenil preview: Playing for the first trophy of 2025

For the first time in 2025, a trophy is on the line for NJ/NY Gotham FC. After beating Club América Femenil in the semi-final by a score of 3-1, Gotham will face Tigres UANL Femenil in the inaugural finals of the CONCACAF W Champions Cup. The two teams met in the group stage last October, where they played to a 4-4 draw. A key difference between that game and this one, other than the roster changes, of course, is the fact that this was a home game for Gotham, while this final will be at Tigres' home ground instead.

For Gotham, the semifinals against América was a step in the right direction following a stretch of poor results in the NWSL play, including losses to Racing Louisville FC and San Diego Wave FC. Not only was the performance and result much better, but they also controlled the match in a similar way to how they did in 2024. Some bad habits did rear their ugly head again, fading a little bit too much towards the end of the game and conceding on the first sustained attack from the opponent, but for the most part, this was a very good performance.

For Tigres, they're coming off a disappointing 2025 Clausura season, finishing fifth, ten points off of first place. This tournament is viewed as kind of a "last dance" for this group of Tigres players and maybe their last chance at winning a competition of note.

Usually, finals live in their own vacuum where a lot of the team's stats and form leading up to the game is thrown out and really does not matter, given it's so different from how the games are usually played. Here is a preview of the inaugural CONCACAF W Champions Cup between Gotham FC and Tigres.

Gotham FC vs Tigres UANL preview

Date

The game will be played on Saturday, May 24.

Time

The fixture is scheduled for a kickoff at 10:00 PM ET.

How to watch

The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and can be streamed on Paramount+. For those looking to watch inn Spanish, they can watch on ESPN Deportes and stream on ESPN+.

Location

The match will be played at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico.

Weather

Temperatures will be in the mid 80s throughout the match with wind speeds below 10 mph and humidity around 50-60%. There is also a 0% chance of rain, a big change from the semifinal, which saw plenty of rainfall throughout the match.

Injury Report

For CONCACAF games, teams are not required to publish an official injury report. Sofia Cook (thigh), Tierna Davidson (SEI - knee), Shelby Hogan (D45 - thumb), Rose Lavelle (ankle), Gabi Portilho (hip), and Jéssica Silva (ankle) all appeared on the previous injury report for last Friday's game against the San Diego Wave. Only Silva was available and played on Wednesday.

Players to watch

Fans should watch Lizbeth Ovalle on Tigres. The winger finished the Clausura season in Mexico with 12 goals and six assists in 19 matches and also assisted on the first goal in the semifinals. She is pretty clearly both the present and the future of this Tigres team, given she is still only 25 years old.

Gotham FC rookie Sarah Schupansky is also someone to watch, and she should have her first marquee performance for the team. The 21-year-old has had a good start to life in the NWSL and assisted on the Bats' opening goal of the semifinal. With each game, she looks to be growing in confidence and getting more and more comfortable.

Prediction

This game could very easily go either way. The NJ/NY side has the better roster on paper, but Tigres still has a very good team and will be playing in front of their home fans in their home stadium. Despite being the away team, expect Gotham FC to come out on top 2-1 and bring home their first trophy since the 2023 NWSL Championship. Goals will come from Schupansky and Esther González for the Bats, while Ovalle will get on the scoresheet for Tigres.
