NJ/NY Gotham FC will have a short break from NWSL play as they head to Monterrey, Mexico to take on Club América Femenil in the semifinals of the inaugural CONCACAF W Champions Cup. Gotham earned their spot after finishing second in Group A in the late summer and early fall 2024 thanks to two wins and two draws in four games. The other semifinal sees Tigres UANL Femenil take on Portland Thorns FC.
Gotham has been in poor form recently with just one win and three losses in their last five games. Meanwhile América have just finished their Liga MX Femenil Clausura season on top with 41 points from 17 games. They also come in to this game with three wins and just one loss in their last five games, much better than what the NJ/NY side has been able to manage.
They also have a rest and travel advantage over Gotham. They will have had eight days of rest as opposed to Gotham's four. They also have around 1000 fewer miles to travel as they will travel around 400 miles from Mexico City to Monterrey while the NWSL team will travel over 1400 miles from New Jersey.
The winner of this match will play either Tigres or Portland in the finals on Saturday while the loser of the two semifinals will play in the third place match earlier that day. While these games obviously do not count towards the NWSL standings, winning this title should provide a much needed morale boost for the following few league games.
7:30 PM ET
The match will be streamed on Paramount+
Fans would have to go to Mexico and can purchase tickets to attend in person here.
