Tottenham legend Darren Anderton backs Nuno Espirito Santo as the right man for the job

Speaking to My Betting Sites (h/t Express), former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and club legend Darren Anderton has given his backing to manager Nuno Espirito Santo after a tricky start to his tenure.

Nuno was brought into the club this summer after an elongated search for a new manager, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. The ex-Real Madrid boss was shown the doors in April, with Ryan Mason seeing over the rest of the campaign in an interim capacity.

Tottenham settled in on Nuno after having faced rejection from the likes of Antonio Conte, Erik ten Hag among other candidates. It hasn’t been the easiest of starts for the ex-Wolves boss at the North London outfit thus far.

While three wins in the first three Premier League games made things appear great, the performances were not up to the mark. Furthermore, there have been missteps against lesser opponents in the UEFA Europa Conference League and the loss against Crystal Palace, even if there were a number of injuries, has brought some pressure on the new boss already.

However, Anderton believes that Nuno is a top manager and Spurs got it right with his appointment, especially after the way things went down under Mourinho.

“Nuno was such an important appointment and Spurs got a lot of stick for how long it took and everything else, but they did the right thing in taking their time because it’s such an important appointment and they got the right man. “I love what he did at Wolves and the way that his teams played football, the sort of players he brought into the club were outstanding, different class so I really do believe in his judgement in players and his ability as a coach.”

Nuno took over at Tottenham in the summer

As iterated earlier, it has not been a tricky start for Nuno at Tottenham. But there have been some promising signs although there is no denying that a lot of work still needs to be done. The game against Chelsea will be the Portuguese manager’s biggest test after the opening day win against Man City.
