Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has hit back at Ipswich Town's Luke Woolfenden after the player made a dig at him live on Sky during the club's promotion parade.

When being interviewed during the club's open top bus parade, the 25-year-old defender said: "Listen, I'll have to sit for six weeks now and listen to Don Goodman tell us we're not good enough you know, to do anything in the Prem, like he did in the Champ. Don Goodman... apparently we're still going to finish mid-table, but Don, don't worry about it."

Goodman, who works as an EFL pundit, was clearly surprised by these comments, and has hit back at the Tractor Boys' defender.

In the aftermath of Luke Woolfenden's comments, Don Goodman has said he believes that the Ipswich Town defender has a problem with him, and that he has a good relationship with other people at the club.

Speaking to Football League World, via OLBG, the Sky Sports pundit said: "Paul Gilmore, the Sky reporter, called me to warn that it (player jibes) happened and had gone out unedited on Sky News (YouTube channel) when it wasn't supposed to. It was really kind of Paul but I was very surprised, to be honest.

"I've been nothing but complimentary about Ipswich Town from the moment they beat Sunderland on the opening day up until their promotion was confirmed. I was surprised after shaking hands with Kieran McKenna, Sam Morsy, Wes Burns and Leif Davies prior to kick-off on Saturday.

"It just seems like Luke Woolfenden has a problem with me rather than anyone else at the club. I'm going to be a grown-up about it, but unfortunately Luke has been a little immature."

Goodman has instead urged Woolfenden to celebrate with the people around him, and has wished him and the club good luck ahead of their Premier League campaign.

He said: "I don't know what Luke has heard or seen but I feel really sad that on the biggest and best day of his footballing life, he's thinking about me. Go and celebrate with your friends and family, you have just achieved the most incredible thing. Unfortunately, I feel sad that Luke has got me on his brain even though I've praised them all season long.

"Good luck to Luke and good luck to Ipswich in the Premier League next season. I hope, as I do with every team from the Championship, they fly the flag and do really well because everyone is saying promoted teams cannot compete. Of course they can."

Luke Woolfenden and Ipswich Town face a huge step-up next season

After two consecutive promotions, Ipswich Town have plenty of momentum and confidence behind them, but they should be under no illusions about the size of the task ahead of them.

Ipswich Town have a number of players who were playing League One football just over a year ago, and the step-up from the third tier to the top-flight of English football is huge.

The Tractor Boys conceded 57 goals in the Championship, which is still the seventh-best record in the Championship, but it's more than clubs like Millwall and Sunderland who finished in the bottom half of the table, so it's clear that they'll have to tighten up at the back next season if they're to stay in the Premier League.

However, in Kieran McKenna, Ipswich have an outstanding young manager, and with some quality recruitment, there's absolutely no reason why Woolfenden and his teammates can't surprise people and stay in the Premier League.
