Gordon Strachan has revealed how close he came to returning to Elland Road and becoming Leeds manager.
Strachan spent six years as a player for the Yorkshire giants between 1986 and 1995, leading the team to their last league title in 1991.
The Scot then went into a successful coaching career, taking over the likes of Southampton and Celtic.
But the 62-year-old has revealed that he almost went back to his former club on a number of occasions.
“There could have been, a couple of times, but I was already at a job and I’m not one of these guys to walk out on a job,” he told Leeds Live.
“I can remember one place. I was in Australia at the time when I’d gone from Adelaide to Sydney.
“I was speaking to a couple of people who were talking about taking over Leeds and another couple of times when I was manager at Coventry [City].
“All different times, but it’s never materialised, which is a bit unfortunate, but in another way it’s fortunate because I’m quite happy with my relationship with the Leeds fans.
“Wherever I meet them it’s always good fun. Sometimes when you go back as a manager, but if it doesn’t work out right, you can [change your legacy].”
Leeds are currently third in the Championship.
