Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is expected to put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the club, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

The Italy international joined the Gunners from Chelsea for £12 million in January 2023 and he has since been a key player under manager Mikel Arteta.

He has not started every game for the club, but the 32-year-old has been consistent with his performances and has rarely let the team down.

Jorginho’s current contract expires on June 30 with an option for another year, but Arsenal have offered a new deal which the midfielder is expected to sign.

Arsenal make right decision on Jorginho

Jorginho has been a valuable addition to the Gunners ranks. He has provided good cover in the defensive midfield role amid Thomas Partey’s injury woes.

Partey has reclaimed his starting position over the past few games, but the Ghanaian appears more likely to be sold, considering his poor injury record.

There are no surprises that Arsenal have opted to prolong the stay of Jorginho who suits Arteta’s playing style with his superb ball control and passing range.

Earlier in February, Arteta said that Jorginho is a ‘really intelligent‘ player who makes the people around him better.

Arsenal are planning to sign a new marquee midfielder this summer, but Jorginho should continue to remain a quality option to rotate between games.

Jorginho was an unused substitute in the 3-2 Premier League derby win at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. He will be aiming to return versus Bournemouth.

The Gunners are currently top of the league standings with 80 points, one ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand against Spurs to be played next month.
