The streets won’t forget Yaya Touré’s 2013/14 season.

Touré is one of most influential signings in Manchester City’s history and by 2013, he had already scored the winning goal in an FA Cup final and been a vital cog in the 2011/12 title winning season.

But the Ivorian scaled previously unimaginable heights in 2013/14 and he ended the campaign with an incredible 20 league goals and nine assists from central midfield.

It was one of the greatest individual seasons ever enjoyed by a Premier League midfielder – but it almost wasn’t enough for City to clinch that year’s title.

A 3-2 defeat at Anfield in April 2014 appeared to be the end of City’s title hopes but they were handed a lifeline by Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip, and it was one they grabbed with both hands.

Touré bagged a goal and an assist in a win away at Crystal Palace to put matters back in City’s hands and another victory at Everton in their next game meant they needed just two more to secure the title.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side welcomed Aston Villa to the Etihad in the penultimate game of the season and after a nervy first half, a quick-fire Edin Džeko brace put them on course for victory, before Stevan Jovetić made it 3-0 late on.

And then, in stoppage time, Touré picked up the ball inside his own half, and it was clear there was only one thing on his mind.

He set off down field like a runaway locomotive, making the Villa players chasing after him look like children trying in vain to tackle an over-exuberant adult in a lads vs dads match.

It was an incredible goal which perfectly encapsulated that perfect season for Touré.

What a year. What a player. What goal.
