Golden Boy nominees announced: Barcelona & Real Madrid stars included | OneFootball

The nominees for the upcoming Golden Boy award have on Thursday been unveiled.

And players from Spanish football’s two leading clubs feature front and centre.

First, from Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad, Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí are in the running to be named the standout U21 player in Europe.

Turning attentions towards Real Madrid, and Arda Güler is the sole Golden Boy candidate in Carlo Ancelotti’s all-conquering Blancos squad.

Elsewhere on the shortlist for the prize are the likes of Manchester United trio Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro, and Alejandro Garnacho, Porto summer signing Samuel Omorodion, and Jorrel Hato of Ajax.

The Golden Boy award is handed out by Italian outlet Tuttosport on an annual basis to an U21 plying his trade in one of Europe’s top-5 leagues deemed as ‘the most impressive during the calendar year’.

The accolade has been dominated by players from Barcelona and Real Madrid over recent years, the last three winners having come in the form of Pedri, Gavi and, most recently, Jude Bellingham.
