MIAMI.- With the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League drawing to a close this month, teams in League B continue their push for a place in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, while some seek promotion into League A.Saturday brings a pair of games in Group B that will help the picture solidify, with all four teams in the group still maintaining aspirations of playing in the continental championship:Bermuda vs. GuyanaThe day starts with Bermuda hosting Guyana at the Dame Flora Duffy National Sports Centre. Guyana sits second in the group, two points above Bermuda, so the Gombey Warriors know they could jump the visitors and move into the Gold Cup qualification round place with a win.Veteran DF Dante Leverock and GK Dale Eve, second in CNL history with 35 saves, again will look to keep the Bermuda goal clean. Up top, FW Nahki Wells hopes to add to his four CNL goals. Yet, the next generation wants to make itself heard as well, with Finland-based FW Djair Parfitt-Williams hoping to score his debut goal and a trio of defenders in Head Coach Kyle Lightbourne’s squad seeking their first caps.Guyana will hope to test that back line with FW Omari Glasgow, who has scored three goals in this CNL campaign, and FW Trayon Bobb, while DF Johnny Grant will look for his Golden Jaguars debut next to captain Sam Cox.The visitors have a slight edge in the all-time series, with the 2-1 victory on June 7, 2022 as one of two matches won, along with one loss and one draw.Montserrat vs. HaitiHaiti is yet to taste defeat in this CNL campaign, with the last loss in the competition coming all the way back in the 2019-20 tournament when it fell 2-1 to Curacao. However, manager Jean-Jacques Pierre knows this trip to Blakes Football Complex to meet Montserrat will pose a unique challenge for Les Grenadiers.Haiti went up early on Montserrat in the teams’ meeting June 7 of last year with goals from Mondy Prunier and Carnejy Antoine, but Kaleem Strawbridge-Simon pulled one back in the 19th minute. Steeven Saba scored in the 25th minute, but Lyle Taylor closed the scoring with a late penalty as Haiti sweated out a 3-2 win.Taylor and Adrian Clifton are tied as Montserrat’s top scorer in CNL with three goals all-time, and while the Emerald Boys no longer can clinch promotion, they will be eager to get a pair of results that would put them back into the Gold Cup Prelims. In addition to Antoine and Prunier, FW Duckens Nazon returns to the setup for Haiti, as does Andrew Jean-Baptiste, a veteran of the 2019 run to the Gold Cup semifinals, potentially pairing with DF Ricardo Ade at the back.A win would lock up Haiti’s return to the Gold Cup and a return to League A, meaning both teams will be putting everything on the line Saturday.
