The Lilywhites have failed to keep a clean sheet in their opening seven matches in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. At the other end of the pitch, Spurs have averaged two goals a game, a statistic which has allowed them to go on a six-match unbeaten streak in the league.
When speaking to the media ahead of this evening’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester City at The Academy Stadium, Spurs boss Vilahamn said that the lack of clean sheets is no concern, the priority is to score more goals.
“I’d rather win 3-2 than 1-0 so for me, it is more like we need to score more goals,” Vilahamn said. “Of course, we want a clean sheet and to make sure that we can do that.
“We know what we need to develop to have a better chance of keeping a clean sheet but it is more about how we score more goals. I’m not going to put too much effort into keeping that clean sheet, I am going to make sure we score more goals, that’s the Tottenham way.”
Vilahamn says that his side can pull off a shock against Manchester City and that this evening’s fixture can provide a good marker of where Spurs are under his leadership.
He said “I think we have a good chance of competing with them and we have a chance of winning the game as well.
“They’ve played together for a couple of years now with the same coach and a lot of the same players. They are a good team with really high quality players.
“You can also see that this league is more competitive now, they lost against Brighton and have had a few draws.
“I think we have a chance and if we have a good day, we can beat them. If we have a bad day, we are probably going to lose, so we need to make sure that we are consistently performing.
“I am looking forward to seeing whether we are ready to step up to the fight now or whether we need to regroup and take another step before we do that.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 6.45pm.
