Some 15 years after making his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund at the age of 17, Mario Götze made his 300th appearance in Germany's top flight as Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 with Union Berlin.
And Götze, now 32, capped his fine milestone by scoring the opening goal to help his side to a hard-fought draw in the German capital.
"It's sensational that I've now played 300 Bundesliga games," said Götze, according to sge4ever.de, a website that covers Eintracht Frankfurt closely.
“If I think back to when I was a little boy, I would have wished for it to happen like this. So I'm very proud. It's nice that I scored, but in the end it wasn't that difficult. I just had to stand there and finish it.”
Reflecting on the match, Götze said:
"It's hard to take anything away from Union here. Even if you look at their previous games, they're on course for the Champions League at home. It was high intensity and in the end we can be happy with the point.
“We were much better in the first half. You have to create chances to hurt your opponent. We didn't do that in the second half and that was missing. In the end, we can be happy to take the point when we were a man down,” Götze said, referring to the fact that Arthur Theate was sent off for the visitors.
