Southampton have reportedly turned to veteran Willy Caballero to solve their current goalkeeping crisis.
According to The Athletic, the 40-year-old free agent will sign with the Saints on a short-term deal.
Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has been left short in the department following injuries to Alex McCarthy (hamstring) and Fraser Forster (muscle).
Caballero spent seven years as a mostly back-up stopper at Manchester City and Chelsea before seeing his contract expire at Stamford Bridge last summer.
Since then he has been training at League One side AFC Wimbledon in order to maintain fitness.
The Athletic’s report claims that the former Argentina international jumped at the chance to move to St Mary’s, and the deal is likely to be wrapped up quickly.
