FLW takes a look at three things that would make it a good January transfer window for Charlton Athletic.
Charlton Athletic have brought in eleven new signings so far this season, and the January transfer window will give Nathan Jones another opportunity to strengthen his squad as he attempts to guide the club back to the Championship.
The Addicks needed to find a replacement for striker Alfie May, who left the club to sign for League One rivals Birmingham City during the summer transfer window, so they brought in Gassan Ahadme and Matty Godden to add to their options up front.
Goalkeeper Will Mannion, centre-back Alex Mitchell, and left-back Josh Edwards were signed to strengthen a defence that kept just five clean sheets in the league last season, while midfielder Greg Docherty was named captain following his arrival from Hull City.
Charlton manager Nathan Jones also signed four players that he had previously worked with at Luton Town - Luke Berry, Allan Campbell, Dan Potts, and Danny Hylton - all of whom were part of the Hatters' squad that reached the Championship play-offs under the Welshman in 2022.
The Addicks currently find themselves eighth in the League One table after an excellent victory at home against league leaders Birmingham City last week, and a good January transfer window could make all the difference as they look to mount a promotion push during the rest of the campaign.
Let's take a look at a few things that would make it a dream 2025 January transfer window for Charlton Athletic.
Promising striker Miles Leaburn finally made his return to first team action for Charlton during their defeat against Bristol Rovers a couple of weeks ago, after he had been ruled out by a hamstring injury since last year.
Jones has previously explained that the 20-year-old "ticks all boxes" when it comes to his ideal centre-forward profile, so it would be no surprise to see the youngster break into the starting line-up once he gets his fitness levels back up during the coming weeks.
However, with his contract due to expire next summer, Leaburn may attract interest from clubs in higher divisions in January. He was linked with Chelsea, Brentford and Aston Villa in 2023, so he could easily be the subject of an offer from the Premier League, especially if Charlton cannot agree a new contract with him before the transfer window.
There is no doubt that Leaburn could make a huge difference for the Addicks during the second half of the season, so it would be a dream scenario if he signed a new deal and stayed at the club in January.
Will Mannion has impressed for Charlton since his move from Cambridge United in the summer, with his physical presence and ability to command the penalty area making him a significant upgrade on the goalkeeping options that were available to the Addicks last season.
However, with Ashley Maynard-Brewer the only other senior goalkeeper in the squad, Charlton could probably do with another experienced stopper to provide cover.
The Addicks failed with their attempts to sign a few goalkeepers, including Asmir Begovic, during the summer transfer window, so it would not be a huge surprise to see them complete a deal for one in January.
Left-back Tayo Edun was a regular feature for Charlton last season, but he has not made a single appearance in League One during the 2024/25 campaign so far.
The 26-year-old finds himself behind Josh Edwards and Thierry Small in the pecking order, and he has not even made the bench in the third tier under Jones this season.
If Charlton are going to bring in any new signings in January, they may need to move one or two players on, and Edun would likely be made available if that is the case.
He scored the opening goal against Cambridge in the EFL Trophy last month, but that seemingly wasn't enough for him to force his way back into Jones' plans, so he could well depart in January.
