Konate and Gloukh star in 4-2 win

We are back to winning ways! Our boys showed their hunger for goals in a great first performance under Onur Cinel. We are back to the top of the table at the end of the 27th game week of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga thanks to a 4-2 home win over SK Austria Klagenfurt.

Match summary

We went into the clash against SK Austria Klagenfurt with a clear aim - putting what we practiced under Onur Cinel during the week into practice. That's exactly what we managed in a thumping win at the Red Bull Arena.

Cinel's influence on our attacking could be immediately seen, with Karim Konate turning the ball onto Roko Simic in a quick attack, before Simic threaded it through to Luka Sucic. The Croatian playmaker had no trouble in capping the fine move and slotting straight past Menzel in goal to make it 1-0 (5').

Klagenfurt struggled to make an impact on the play, aside from the odd shot from distance or two. At least until Karim Konate accidentally tripped Rico Benatelli in the penalty area. The referee consulted VAR and pointed to the spot - from where Andy Irving slotted the ball into the top left (31').

We then shrugged off that setback and sent the Red Bull Arena wild with a pair of strikes within a minute! Konate dribbled into the Klagenfurt danger area and the ball found its way to Oscar Gloukh – the Israeli didn't have to hesitate before volleying us 2-1 ahead by finding the top right (34.).

That wasn't enough for our boys though, who wanted more. The spectators were still on their feet when Gloukh and Konate exchanged roles. This time the Israeli laid the ball through to the Ivorian to make it 3-1 (35'). Anyone who thought our team was satisfied with that would be sorely mistaken. A Sucic corner was met by our big centre-back Strahinja Pavlovic, who headed the ball towards goal and a Konate chest into the net did the rest by making it 4-1 (44'). The score stayed that way as we broke for half-time.

The momentum went the way of the visitors at the start of the second period, with a corner curled into Besuschkow at the far post, who turned the ball in and cut our lead to 2-4 (52').

We responded to conceding a second goal with some quick pressing and intense tackling. As had been so often the case this evening, Karim Konate was the chief goal threat, going close from a Solet cross (54') and a Sucic pass forward (59').

The game became disjointed in the final phases with plenty of fouls flying in. Our hunger for goals was still not sated with a Glouk drive (78'), a Sucic curler (79') and an effort smashed over by Diambou (84') being the highlights of our bid for even more strikes.

Views

It was an intensive week of training, with a really cool atmosphere. I saw a team that followed a common goal. We saw a lot today of what we have been working on in the past five days - above all our sharpness going forward. There is still room to improve. We have it all in our own hands, and we are very pleased with the three points.

Onur Cinel

There's a great sense of relief. It was clear to us that we needed three points at home today to go top of the table again - and we achieved that. We had a week to get used to a new way of doing things, and Onur has done very well with that. I think you can see in the way we play that it provided a new impulse. We are motivated, and we all have the same aim. I am personally very pleased about all the playing time I can get. We have to press on this Wednesday and next Sunday we have the big showdown at home to Sturm - and we will do everything we can to win that one.
