Barcelona take on Villarreal in LaLiga on Sunday night, so we’ve chosen the greatest goal that fixture has ever produced as today’s Goal of the Day.

Ronaldinho scored a number of memorably excellent goals for Barça but his strike which sunk the Yellow Submarine in 2006 is the one which perhaps springs to mind the most when you think of his time at Camp Nou.

The then 26-year-old had scored his 50th career league goal from the penalty spot earlier in the match and his 51st with just three minutes remaining spectacularly wrapped up a 4-0 victory.

A clever pass over the top from Xavi found Ronaldinho in the area and the Brazilian controlled the ball on his chest, swivelled around and in one swift movement, performed a stunning bicycle kick which looped over Villarreal goalkeeper Mariano Barbosa and into the net.

After the match, Ronaldinho admitted he’d fulfilled a childhood dream by scoring a goal which brought Camp Nou to its feet.

“I didn’t really think too much about it because it just happened on the spur of the moment,” he said.

“When I controlled the ball it stood up just right and everything else worked out perfectly.

“Ever since I was a young boy I’ve dreamed of scoring a goal like that. I’m never going to forget this goal. Now I have to try for my other dream goal which is to score from the halfway line.”
