Oliver Glasner has instructed his Crystal Palace players to go ‘Christmas shopping’ if they don’t believe they can beat Arsenal in tomorrow’s Carabao Cup quarter final.
Palace travel to the Emirates for the first of two meetings between the sides this week, with Arsenal making the trip across the capital on Saturday in their Premier League showdown.
Glasner has full confidence in his players to follow up Sunday’s morale-boosting victory over rivals Brighton and book a place in the last four of the competition.
“If we don’t believe that we can win there, it’s better to go Christmas shopping than to go to the Emirates Stadium.
“This can’t be our mindset and then the same on Saturday. It can’t be if we win tomorrow to then say; ‘ah no it’s fine and now we relax.
“We want to win both games. I would never sign to say either this or that. If I could sign both I would do it. I can’t say tomorrow is more important and then we can lose on Saturday.
“We have the ability [to win] if we perform at our best level, being very compact. Arsenal have a clear structure. They play with wide wingers, good in the 1v1s, half-space runs, going in behind.“They are very dominant in possession and they also have a very good balance. You don’t get many transition situations.
“Very, very good team. Fantastic manager in Mikel Arteta. He’s shown in the last years how to develop a team and a club. It will be a challenge but we are looking forward to this challenge.”
