Tim Walter is under pressure with the Tigers

Hull City should look to appoint Mark Robins as their new manager after his sacking by Championship rivals Coventry City.

That's according to Football League World's fan pundit for the Tigers, Ant Northgraves, who believes the 54-year-old would be the ideal appointment at the MKM Stadium.

Robins was sacked as Sky Blues manager on Thursday morning to the surprise of many, over seven-and-a-half years after he had returned to the club for his second spell as manager.

During that time, he guided Coventry from League Two to the Championships, only missing out on promotion to the Premier League after a penalty shootout defeat in the 2022/23 play-off final.

He also took the club to the FA Cup semi-finals last season, where they were agonisingly close to knocking out Manchester United.

All of that means that Northgraves believes his side should be taking advantage of Coventry's decision to cut ties with Robins.

Hull told to appoint Mark Robins as manager

Of course, Hull themselves only changed manager in the summer, when they sacked Liam Rosenior despite a seventh place finish in the Championship last season, just three points off the play-offs.

In his place, the Tigers appointed Tim Walter as manager, with the 48-year-old taking on a role outside his native Germany for the first time in his career.

However, he has struggled so far, with the club taking just 15 points from 14 league games so far, leaving them 18th in the table, only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Indeed, Hull fans have already begun to call for the departure of Walter, doing so in their 1-0 defeat at Oxford on Tuesday, that extended their winless run to six league games.

It has been reported that despite that, the German will still be in charge when the Tigers host West Brom on Sunday afternoon.

Even so, Northgraves is keen to see his side act quickly now that Robins has become available, to secure the services of someone he believes could be a good long-term appointment for the club.

When asked if he would like to see the now former Coventry boss considered as a potential replacement if Walter is sacked, the Hull fan told Football League World: "100%, go and get Mark Robins.

"I think that's an incredibly harsh sacking, considering that he's taken them from League Two to the Championship, and was on the brink of the Premier League at one point, on the brink of a cup final.

"He's shown that he's got the ability to oversee rebuilds, new players, he's got a system that's effective at various levels of English football, he's tried and tested in this league, knows exactly what he's doing, knows how to steady a ship and build from the ashes of what's been left by the previous manager.

"So I think that we are a perfect opportunity and a perfect project rebuild for someone like Mark Robins to come in and just stabilise the club and give us a good few years of long-term stability with a manager that could be here for a long time.

"His football's practical, he gets the best tactical setups to get a result from the game rather than just sticking with one of way of playing, and that's something we need, a manager with variation that's adaptable, so for me, 100% go and get Mark Robins."

Like Hull, Coventry have taken 15 points from 14 league games this season, putting them 17th in the table.

They begin life without Robins on Saturday afternoon, with a trip to the Stadium of Light to take on league leaders Sunderland.

Tigers should move for Mark Robins

It does feel as though it would make sense for Hull to try and move for Robins as quickly as possible.

Walter's start as manager has been far from inspiring, and it is hard to see how he turns things round, especially after already losing the fanbase.

Sticking with him could therefore drag the club into trouble, while by contrast, many would have faith that Robins has the know-how and experience of this level to turn things around.

Indeed, it is for that reason that the overwhelming reaction to his sacking by Coventry, does seem to be one of shock.

As a result, it would be no surprise if he was to attract plenty of interest from elsewhere, now that he is on the market.

With that in mind, Hull may want to move quickly here to secure his services, and avoid missing out on a manager who knows just how to do the job that would be required of him at the MKM Stadium.
