Glasgow Times claims Tavernier is Best Defender in European Football

The Scottish mainstream media’s agenda is plain to see, and actually I find it all rather humorous…

The SMSM is, and always has been a cheerleader for any side that plays out of Ibrox. From the days of David Murray’s legendary succulent lamb dishes to the present day where the menu might not be as appealing, but it still does the trick all the same.

Glasgow Times claimed Bill Struth is the greatest manager ever in World football

OneFootball Videos

Just the other week we highlighted an article declaring Bill Struth as the best manager in the history of football. Yesterday they managed to top that, yes remarkably they did! And it was also the same rag who gave us the Struth story, none other than the Glasgow Times.

They actually released a piece telling us that James Tavernier is statistically the best defender in European Football! Yes I had to check the date too, I know we all want January to be over, but it’s nowhere close to being the start of April.

SEVILLE, SPAIN – MAY 18: James Tavernier of Rangers looks dejected as they walk past the UEFA Europa League trophy following their sides defeat in the UEFA Europa League final match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Rangers FC at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on May 18, 2022 in Seville, Spain. Tav is a decent player, but nothing more. Yes his goal return is good, but any player who has the responsibility of taking penalty kicks for theRangers should have a decent goal ratio. If Allan McGregor was the Ibrox sides penalty taker for the past few years, he would have had a better goal tally than most top flight Scottish forwards.

Call me biased, but I don’t think Tav is anywhere near being considered as one of the best defenders in Europe, he’s not even in the top 20, or 50 or maybe even 500 for that matter. I’m pretty sure Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier can rest easy about their chances of being in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.

Why? Because Tav is not a defender first and foremost. He can’t really defend, he’s a weak link in theRangers backline, which has been exposed by Celtic and many European sides in the past. Even theRangers supporters will tell you the same thing.

So that makes it all the more remarkable that the times would allow such a piece of nonsense to be published, but I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Although I do applaud their efforts of keeping us entertained with some unintended humour during the bleakest month of the year.
