The first ever Glasgow Derby Scottish Cup Final will be an occasion to relish…

On Saturday 25 May, presumably at 3pm, the first ever Glasgow Derby Scottish cup final will kick-off and it will be a match to relish. The Scottish FA won’t have to worry about selling the tickets this time around, they could sell out Hampden four times over.

As expected, theRangers beat Hearts yesterday for the fifth time this season. This time it was at Hampden as Philippe Clement picked his squad up off the floor to reach the Scottish Cup final. In doing so the latest Ibrox club has set up an intriguing end of season clash which will be the first ever Glasgow Derby to take place in the final stage of the famous old trophy.

It certainly will be one to relish, it will be difficult, but it’s a game I and most of the Celtic supporters wanted. To play theRangers is a better outcome than playing Hearts.

That’s not a dig at the Ibrox club as on their day they are capable of beating us and clearly have a better squad than the Jam Tarts, but Stevie Naismith’s side have been a thorn in our side this campaign. Our bogey side if you like, and they would raise their game significantly if they played us, especially in a Scottish Cup Final.

This Final will be a more open game and that will suit us to a tee, not to mention the fact that we have the upper hand over the Ibrox side this campaign. And with an almost equal split of tickets – did you know there are a few extra rows in the West Stand compared to the East Stand at Hampden, a wee sneaky one there from the Scottish FA! – the atmosphere will be intense and more like Celtic v Rangers games of old before the old Ibrox club bit the dust in disgrace in 2012.

So all in all it’s the opponent we’d prefer to have and the same probably applies across the city. Everyone should be looking forward to the Scottish Cup Final as a fitting climax to the season.

A Glasgow Derby in Scotland in the Scottish Cup final and there’s also a Manchester Derby in the FA Cup final down south. That final at Wembley will never compete in terms of atmosphere with what’s going to go down at Hampden on 25 May.
