Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl discussed the future of midfielder and Roma target Denis Zakaria.

The Giallorossi attempted to acquire the Swiss international during the summer transfer window, but were unsuccessful in their pursuit.

Roma are expected to reignite discussions for the midfielder in January—when the Germans could relent and agree to sell in order to avoid losing him for free this summer.

When asked about Zakaria’s situation by Sky Germany, Eberl confirmed that the club is still considering their options.

“We calmly want to think about his (Zakaria’s) contract renewal,” he said.

“We’re still dealing with the fallout from coronavirus, so we have to make our calculations. We will do everything we can to make offers to the players that will then be accepted”

“He knows how crucial he is to us and how much he’s valued at the club. We want to convince him and Ginter that Gladbach is also the next right step.”
