Florian Neuhaus and Nathan Ngoumou put Borussia two up before the break, before Kilian Sauck and Winsley Boteli scored either side of a Fatlum Ahmeti reply. In a much-changed side from the final games of the Bundesliga season, Tobias Sippel started between the sticks, behind a back four of Lukas Ullrich, matchday captain Tony Jantschke, Fabio Chiarodia and Luca Netz. Christoph Kramer and Florian Neuhaus lined up in the centre of the park, with Alassane Plea and Nathan Ngoumou in the wide positions. In his swansong appearance, Patrick Herrmann played just behind striker Shio Fukuda.

Moritz Nicolas took over goalkeeping duties for the second period, while Ibrahim Digberekou and Marvin Friedrich slotted into the backline. Julian Weigl and Rocco Reitz occupied the central midfield positions. Nathan Ngoumou and Shio Fukuda retained their positions in the attacking unit for the start of the second half, joined by Kilian Sauck and Winsley Boteli.

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS

20’: The ball ricochets its way towards the advancing Ullrich in the box, but the young full-back is unable to make any solid contact and Viktoria’s keeper snuffs out any danger.

22’: Herrmann is presented with an opportunity after further penalty area pinball. He gets a shot off, but it is dealt with by the defence.

35’: The hosts try their luck from distance, but the shot is well wide of the target.

40’: Goal! Neuhaus scores to put Gladbach in front.

42’: Ngoumou adds another – 2-0!

SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS

50’: A well-worked Foals corner sets up Sauck, whose glancing header finds the net to make it 3-0.

60’: Digberekou has a crack from the edge of the box but sees his effort blocked.

66’: Sauck has a pop from a tight angle after a quick one-two with Reitz, but puts it wide.

80’: Fatlum Ahmeti pulls one back for the hosts after being played in from the right.

83’: Boteli bundles home from a corner to restore Gladbach’s three goal cushion!
