“Sommer was not part of team training on Wednesday,” read a brief statement. “Negotiations on a transfer for the 34-year-old are in the final stages.”

Multiple reports state that there is now an agreement between both clubs on a deal which is set to see Sommer move to Munich for an initial €8m fee plus an additional €1.5m in bonuses.

A medical is taking place on Wednesday night after Gladbach green lit the move having found a replacement of their own.

They are set to use the fee received for Sommer to sign compatriot Robin Omlin of Montpellier after striking a verbal agreement.
