Giroud expected to renew Milan deal – his importance is undeniable | OneFootball

Olivier Giroud has started this season in tremendous fashion, carrying the AC Milan attack amid several notable absences in that department. A renewal seems to be in the pipeline for the striker, which makes a lot of sense.

Since joining the club from Chelsea in the summer of 2021, Giroud has not only become one of Milan’s most important players, but he has also ended the No.9 curse. In 47 appearances for the club, he has found the back of the net 19 times (plus five assists).

Out of the 19 goals, many of them have been very important ones (three against Inter, two against Napoli) and only four have come from the spot. In short, there has been very little stat padding involved in his Milan adventure thus far.

This season, he has scored five goals in the first nine games and prior to the start of the break, he made seven consecutive starts for the Rossoneri. Considering that he will turn 36 at the end of the month, that is quite remarkable and absolutely life-saving for Milan amid the injury situation up front.

Just like Ibrahimovic, Giroud has added both experience and quality to this Milan side and it’s not surprising that the management wants to renew his contract. In fact, work is underway to extend his contract until 2024, with the option of an additional year.

It’s difficult to say that he doesn’t deserve it, because he really does. Two big games against Chelsea await after the break and it will be very interesting to see Giroud against his former side.
