A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga outfit Girona has agreed to the terms of a contract with Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen.
The player in question? Aleix García.
Engine room standout García has of course proven himself one of the star performers in what has been a historic campaign for Girona.
Featuring from the off in all but two of the Blanquivermells’ La Liga outings, the 26-year-old shone bright, on his way to three goals and six assists.
Such exploits have given rise to inevitable speculation surrounding García’s future beyond the summer, amid links with a whole host of clubs from across Europe.
Catalan rivals Barcelona, for one, are long-term admirers of the Spanish international, tipped to launch an assault on his signature with a view to next season.
As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Sunday evening is anything to go by, the Blaugrana are set to miss out.
This comes with García having agreed to take his talents to the Bundesliga for the 2024/25 campaign.
As per a report from German transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, a ‘total verbal agreement’ has been reached between the midfielder and Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
Negotiations between the two clubs are also at an ‘advanced’ stage, over the terms of a transfer worth a fee in the region of €15-20 million.
García, for his part, is understood to be excited by the prospect of linking up with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions.
