Girona star Sávio has this evening revealed his frustration with the officiating during the club’s showdown with Atlético Madrid.

Girona, of course, made the trip to the Wanda Metropolitano a short time ago.

The Catalans headed into proceedings aware that an eventual victory would see them take another significant step towards confirming their place in next season’s Champions League.

When all was said and done, however, Míchel’s troops were forced to face up to defeat.

After taking the lead through Artem Dovbyk inside the opening five minutes, an Antoine Griezmann brace, either side of Ángel Correa’s finish on the stroke of the interval, ensured that Girona were put to the sword by three goals to one.

Of the opinion that his side were hard done-by on the part of the officials en route to as much, though, as alluded to above, is Sávio.

Speaking to the media post-match in Madrid, the Manchester City-bound attacker was drawn on an incident in the Atlético penalty area, which saw him downed by Reinildo with the scoreline at a goal apiece.

A VAR check ultimately concluded that the challenge was not worthy of a spot-kick being awarded, but Sávio has since made clear that he feels the wrong decision was made:

“I think it was a penalty. You can even see the mark here,” the 20-year-old explained whilst pointing to his leg, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “But it already happened…”

Turning attentions towards the final weeks of the campaign, Sávio continued:

“It’s getting long. We have lost in the field of Atlético de Madrid, of Athletic, of Real Madrid, of Mallorca… We must look ahead and continue working to meet our objectives.”
