Girona secure historic European berth with win over Cádiz | OneFootball

La Liga outfit Girona enjoyed an evening which will no doubt live long in the memory on Saturday.

As much comes with the Catalan outfit having officially booked their spot in European competition for next season.

Míchel’s troops marked their return to action last night, welcoming Cádiz to the Estadi Montilivi for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, Girona emerged on the right side of an altogether dominant result, owing to goals on the part of all of Eric García, Iván Martín, Artem Dovbyk, and Portu.

As much guided the Blanquivermells a full seven points clear of 4th-placed Atlético Madrid in Spain’s top-flight, albeit with Diego Simeone’s troops in possession of a game in hand.

Even more significant, though, is the historical impact of the result, on Girona as a club.

This comes with the Catalans having now mathematically secured a place in Europe – either the Champions League, Europa League, or Europa Conference League – for the first time in their history.

With six games still to play, Míchel and co. have of course set their sights firmly on the Champions League, but one things is for certain – they will be playing on the continent in 2024/25.
