Artem Dovbyk could be a one-and-done at Roma, as the team isn’t completely satisfied with his performances despite his okay numbers, and Girona have tested the waters about his return, Sport informs (via Fantacalcio).

The Ukrainian marksman has bagged 16 goals and dished out 4 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions this season. The Giallorossi expected more following a complex chase and a €30M investment. He was La Liga’s pichichi, hitting the net 24 times, in 2023/2024.

Girona would gladly take Dovbyk back, but the economic aspects of the deal represent a substantial hurdle, as Roma would aim to recoup most of what they spent if they were to cut ties with him so soon.

The 27-year-old has been streaky one way or the other, alternating stretches where he found the target in consecutive fixtures with dry spells. He hasn’t left his mark in any big game and has had to be managed due to lingering knee issues.

Our Take on Roma, Dovbyk, and Girona

It’ll be the toughest and most interesting calls of their summer. He’s been fine but not a difference-maker and as impactful as his price tag would suggest. He’s rather one-dimensional. Almost a year later, they have yet to really find the right way to feed him. He’s likely be better in his second Serie A season but, if they keep him, they should do it convincingly and build their offense around him, as he’s strong in the box and lacking in all the other areas, and not just do it because they couldn’t find a good offer.
