Despite their continuous financial woes, FC Barcelona remain heavily involved in the transfer market. Most of the times this happens directly with players contracted to La Blaugrana becoming involved. However, through various clauses, Barcelona also indirectly remain involved in certain cases.
One such case exists in La Liga, and continues to play in the First Division. At the moment, the player remains contracted directly to Las Palmas, and has played this season under the tutelage of Garcia Pimienta, a man who himself has old ties to FC Barcelona.
The player in question is none other than 22-year-old Mika Marmol, a project developed by Barcelona themselves. However, his playing career now lies away from the Catalan giants, and so do his talents. Yet, indirectly at least, he can still help out his previous side.
As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, it seems that Michel’s Girona are quite invested in the player. They believe him to be a talent worth investing in, and with the backing of the City Group, Girona should not have many problems coughing up the funds needed to acquire him.
Fortunately for Barcelona, the Catalan giants made some decisions in the past that could now benefit them. With a 50% sell-on clause attached to the contract of Marmol, Las Palmas would have to direct half of whatever they earn from his departure towards Barcelona.
As per the same report, the valuation of where exactly Las Palmas would be happy to let go of Marmol is a bit uncertain. Some reports suggest it to be closer to €30 million, while others believe it to be close to €10 million. Either way, Barcelona would be guaranteed millions if the Spanish defender ends up being sold.
On the other hand, a return to Barcelona for him is a bit more questionable. Given the overbooking of central defenders at the club, and especially with the emergence of Pau Cubarsi, it seems unlikely that Barcelona would opt to bring in Mika Marmol back as well.
