Girona are joint-top of the La Liga table after Monday night’s 1-1 draw at home to Athletic Club.

Ukraine international Viktor Tsygankov put Míchel’s side ahead in the 55th minute of the game, finishing at the back post after some good play between Miguel Gutiérrez and the in-form Brazilian winger Sávio on the left flank.

Athletic equalised 13 minutes later when Ghana forward and club legend Iñaki Williams finished well with a fine left-footed strike past Paulo Gazzaniga in the Girona goal.

Joint-top of La Liga

The point picked up at Montilivi sees Girona move on to 35 points after 14 league games played. Real Madrid stay top of the standings on goal difference after their 3-0 win over Cádiz, with +22 compared to Girona’s +15. Both sides have played the same number of games.

Athletic’s point sees them move into fifth place in the table, climbing above Basque rivals Real Sociedad, who beat Sevilla 2-1 at home on Sunday.
