Girona’s sensational LaLiga title push continues as they stormed into Barcelona and beat Xavi’s men 3-1.

Scorers: Lewandowski 19′, Gündoğan 90+1′  ; Dovbyk 12′, Gutiérrez 40′, Fernandéz 80′, Stuani 90+5′

It was the worst possible start for Barça, as Artem Dovbyk capped off a superb Girona counterattack to snatch the lead for the visitors inside 15 minutes.

But the home side responded well, as Robert Lewandowski scored from a corner just seven minutes later to reclaim parity and calm the nerves of the home crowd.

Girona stepped on the gas once again however, regaining the lead five minutes before half-time through Miguel Gutiérrez, who fired a rasping shot into the roof of the net.

Barcelona pushed to level once again after the break, but they were undone in the final 10 minutes when Valery Fernández came off the bench to five the visitors an insurance goal.

The hosts would not quit there however, as summer signing İlkay Gündoğan pulled one back in stoppage time to breath life into the clash again.

It would prove to merely be a consolation goal for Xavi’s side however, as Girona found a fourth goal late on to ensure  a famous win and go two points clear at the top of LaLiga.
