Giovanni Simeone has revealed that he would love to play for Atlético Madrid one day, even if his father isn’t there.
The 25-year-old currently plays for Cagliari after having spells at Genoa and Fiorentina.
However, it appears the forward wants to follow in the footsteps of his father and Atleti head coach Diego.
Speaking to ESPN, Simeone said: “I’d love to play for Atlético, more than anything.
“I always wanted to play there as a boy, so it’s normal that I’d want to go there.
“My old man is there, but even if he wasn’t I’d still like to.
“It’s something I really want.”
Simeone has 10 goals and four assists for Cagliari so far this season, helping the club to 11th in the Serie A table.
“I hope he (Diego) can be my coach one day.
“Even if it is hard for a team to sign their coach’s son.”
Atlético Madrid are currently 3rd in LaLiga following their 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo on Tuesday.
