Giorgian De Arrascaeta receives threats amid transfer dispute | OneFootball

The drama swirling around Giorgian De Arrascaeta’s proposed exit from Cruzeiro has intensified as this week came to a close.

The simmering war of words seemingly came to a head after the player and his agent met with his current club.

De Arrascaeta is the subject of a bid approximating €10 from Flamengo but the Raposa are hoping to recoup much more for their Uruguayan attacker.

For the second straight day, the 24-year-old missed pre-season training for Cruzeiro and the club subsequently fined the player a second time.

On Thursday, the player’s agent Daniel Foneca presented the bid from Flamengo to a meeting at Cruzeiro. Vice President Itair Machado flatly rejected the proposal but that might not have been all.

De Arrascaeta took to social media on Friday to reveal that both his phone number and that of his agent were leaked and that both men had received personal threats against them following the meeting.

“In light of the facts in public knowledge, I would like to inform my followers that I accompanied my representative yesterday, until leaving this meeting with Cruzeiro, noting that Mr. Itair Machado used unfortunate expressions that were reasonably considered intimidating.”

“After that meeting, and for some reason that I do not know, but which coincided with the time of the end of the meeting, my cell phone and that of my representative, Mr. Daniel Fonseca, became public, which prompted me to receive messages with insults and threats.”

“In this scenario, I am evaluating with my representative, my lawyer and consultants the most convenient path for my security and my legal and contractual rights. I thank you for your support and understanding.”

De Arrascaeta’s current contract with Cruzeiro runs through the end of 2021 and has a termination clause of about €28m.
