In a statement, the Uruguayan Federation announced that midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta has tested positive for Covid-19.
Therefore, the athlete was removed from the team for their next two matches pertaining to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
However, the situation could be reversed and he will remain in the delegation.
According to Goal Brasil journalist Raisa Simplicio, both Flamengo and the Uruguayan team are in contact and believe it could be a false positive.
Arrascaeta has had Covid-19 before so there is a feeling on both sides that the test may have been a mistake. Now, the Uruguayan will be tested again on Wednesday to confirm.
Brian Ocampo, who plays for Uruguayan Championship side Nacional, was called in to take his place. Arrascaeta would need to isolate for 10 days should the second test confirm a positive result.
