Santiago Gimenez will be up against his old club today, Feyenoord, after joining AC Milan just a few weeks ago. Speaking to the media ahead of the game, the striker admitted that it’s a special situation and that his heart is racing.

Milan announced the signing of Gimenez on February 3rd and just a few days before that, Feyenoord had been confirmed as the Rossoneri’s opponents in the Champions League play-off draw. The striker will already be up against his old side, in other words, which is a special situation.

Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of tonight’s game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Gimenez admitted that his ‘heart is racing’ as facing his old side will be very special. Of course, he made it clear that he now plays for Milan and will do everything to win.

What are your emotions?

“I’m fine, but my heart is racing. What could be better than experiencing this match against a team that I have a wonderful past with? It will be a wonderful evening. I’m very excited, I have to think about Milan and I will do my best to win.”

Today you are on the other side…

“Very difficult match, we [Feyenoord] have always been a tough opponent.”

What did your family tell you?

“I’m excited because I’m at Milan and now I have to think about winning for this team. There’s no room for too many thoughts on the pitch.”

How have the first few days at Milanello felt?

“Special feeling, everyone welcomed me in the best possible way. There are great players and people. All friends who are trying to help me.”

Gimenez is starting up front tonight and will be accompanied by Joao Felix, although the latter will likely have a role slightly behind more similar to a No.10. With Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic on the wings as well, the defensive balance will be key to get right.
