Boro will be hoping to conclude some further business before the new Championship season gets underway in a few weeks.
Middlesbrough are hopeful of signing Hull City left-back Ryan Giles on a permanent deal this summer, whilst also informing striker Matthew Hoppe that he is free to find a new club in the coming weeks.
Boro are reportedly preparing a bid for Giles, with 'growing expectation' that a deal will be agreed between the two clubs at some point this summer.
Whilst Middlesbrough's American forward, Hoppe, has been informed that he doesn't feature in manager Michael Carrick's first team plans for 2024/25, and is expected to call time on his underwhelming spell on Teesside.
Football League World takes a look at the latest lines coming out of these two potential moves, and explores the likelihood of both being done before the EFL season gets underway on August 9.
In what has been one of the strangest and more confusing sagas of the summer, Tigers left-back Giles could be on his way out of the exit door after barely arriving through the MKM Stadium's entrance door once again this summer.
Hull had agreed a £4m obligation to buy the 24-year-old from Luton Town when the two sides agreed an initial loan deal in January, and the Tigers completed that part of the bargain at the end of June.
The catch is that this loan move was completed by former boss Liam Rosenior, and now with Tim Walter in charge and the club needing to be careful with how they manage their finances this summer, Giles appears to be available for transfer.
Boro then got just the message they'd been hoping to hear earlier this month, as Hull owner Acun Ilicali confessed: "About Giles, if he wants to go to Middlesbrough, we will let him go. For me, players' happiness is the most important thing."
Giles was confirmed to have travelled with Walter's squad on their pre-season trip to Turkey last week, but things could move quickly once they return to Humberside this week.
The Tigers boss won't want any disruption or an 'is he, isn't he?' situation overshadowing the start of his debut season in charge, and will also potentially want sufficient time to source a replacement too.
Therefore, there's every chance that Giles could be a Middlesbrough player once again, and after registering a Championship-topping 11 assists during his previous stint with the Teessiders, it would be a welcome reunion.
It's been a rough ride for Hoppe since his move to Middlesbrough back in 2022, as after signing a four-year contract from RCD Mallorca, it was hoped that he could become an important part of the club's future.
Unfortunately, after just six first team appearances for the Teessiders, the former US international is now expected to leave the Riverside Stadium this summer before he ever truly arrived.
The 23-year-old didn't play a single minute of Championship football for Carrick's side last season, with the first half of it being spent on loan with MLS outfit San Jose Earthquakes.
Hoppe made eight appearances in total for the American side, scoring on two occasions. After spending the second half of the 2023/24 campaign lurking in the shadows, the 6'3" striker did not travel to Portugal as part of Middlesbrough's pre-season preparations.
With two years still remaining on his contract with the club, Boro don't have to sell if they don't want to, but that doesn't appear to be the case as a fresh start is viewed as the best possible outcome for both parties this summer.
A move to the MLS is reportedly the most likely destination for the former Schalke striker, and with their transfer window opening on July 18, a deal could be wrapped up fairly quickly for any American side that comes calling.
Therefore, it appears highly unlikely that Hoppe will still be a Middlesbrough player come matchday one of the 2024/25 Championship season.
