América deserved more from their defeat to defending champions Atlas, according to assistant manager Gilberto Adame.

Adame, who took charge of the dugout in the absence of the suspended Santiago Solari on Saturday, heaped praise on his players despite a 2-0 home defeat for Las Águilas at the Estadio Azteca.

“I want to highlight the work of the boys,” he said.

“I dare to say that we were far superior to Atlas, the result is misleading because they hit the target twice and both went in. We were superior.”

América are yet to win this season, picking up one point from their opening two games. However Adame isn’t worried about the criticism being directed towards the Azulcrema.

“They are making drama where it doesn’t exist,” the 49-year-old said.

“The previous tournament we were super leaders, we were the defence with the fewest goals conceded, nobody says that we have a squad to fight for the title.”
