Gil has revealed he passed up on an offer from Flamengo in order to return to Corinthians.
Speaking to Esporte Espetacular, the defender revealed he received an offer from the Rio de Janeiro club but opted to sign with the Timão.
“I wanted to join Corinthians,” said Gil.
“Flamengo were interested, and that’s a big club, like Corinthians, but everyone already knew where I was going.”
Gil played in 184 matches for Corinthians between 2013 and 2015, before being dealt to Shandong Luneng in China.
“I didn’t have to think much [about where to play],” added the 32-year-old. “In Brazil, Corinthians was my only option.”
