South African winger-cum-wingback Gift Links continued to impress in Denmark as he found the back of the net in AGF’s 5-1 thumping of OB in the Danish Superliga at Nature Energy Park Stadium on Monday evening.
The former Cape Town City star, playing as a left-wingback in newly appointed Jakob Poulsen’s 3-4-3 system, scored the fifth goal to round up the scoring. Meanwhile, AGF moved up to fourth place on the log standings after five matches played in the 2025/26 season.
Links has established himself as one of the important figures at AGF and standout performer in the Danish topflight division since completing a € 800, 000 (R16 million) move from the Citizens in September 2019.
Overall, the 26-year-old utility player has featured in 175 games across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 18 assists for the Aarhus-based outfit. In addition, he was named in the 2023/24 Superliga team of the season for his dazzling performances.
In the ongoing campaign, Links, who recently penned a new four-year deal with the club to extend his stay in Denmark to June 2029, has already netted two goals with a solitary assist from five league outings.
Prior to putting pen to paper on fresh terms, the wingback was reportedly on the radar of Major League Soccer (MLS) teams and three unnamed clubs from the English Championship, along with reigning Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, a move away from AGF never materialized, as the club was not open to losing one of their prized assets, while the player was also keen to remain in Aarhus. Links and AGF will return to action with a clash against Vejle Boldklub on Sunday, 24 August.
In his homeland, Links won the MTN8 title with the Cape club under the tutelage of Benni McCarthy, who is now in charge of the Kenya national team. It remains to be seen whether the Northwest-born star can play himself into the South African national team’s set up ahead of the 2025 AFCON.
