Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White, according to the Telegraph.

Spurs have been attempting to bolster their squad after finishing 17th in the Premier League last season.

The Spurs hierarchy has backed new manager Thomas Frank with Premier League-proven additions such as Mohammed Kudus and Gibbs-White.

Manchester City were considering a move for Gibbs-White, who former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo referred to as a ‘special player’, before Tottenham swooped in.

Details of Spurs’ interest emerged today, and a medical is already scheduled.

Tottenham are moving with intent as they strive to return to the upper echelons of the Premier League and make an impression in the Champions League.

The addition of Gibbs-White and Kudus, two players who are better centrally, creates questions about James Maddison’s future.

He is at a disadvantage as he will not be fit for pre-season training, where the two new additions can stake their claim for a starting berth.

While Tottenham have turned heads with these signings, they have yet to plug a crucial hole in the squad.

One of the primary issues Tottenham faced last season was the lack of a top-class holding midfielder.

Spurs must enter the market for a physically robust and technically efficient holding midfielder.

Frank had Christian Norgaard at Brentford and will undoubtedly want a general to marshal his Tottenham engine room.
