However, according to Calciomercato, there was hesitancy on the goalkeeper’s behalf to sign the deal which threw in some doubt.

The report also claims that Buffon will be signing a two-year-deal, in which his salary from Juventus will be doubled from €4m-a-year to €8m-a-year.

PSG feel that the addition of a veteran goalkeeper such will improve their chances of European success, as well as add a respected name to the dressing room.

It has been suggested that Buffon will be expected to mentor Areola, whom PSG see as a potentially world-class goalkeeper.
