Gianluigi Buffon says playing against the children of his former team-mates was almost enough to convince him to hang up his gloves.
Buffon joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer after 17 years at Juventus and the veteran goalkeeper is expected to carry on playing until at least 2020.
The Italian plays alongside Timothy Weah – son of Serie A legend George – at PSG, and he says coming up against the sons of his old friends Lilian Thuram and Enrico Chiesa makes him feel very old.
“When I faced him, at first I was disoriented,” he told Eurosport about playing against Fiorentina starlet Federico Chiesa last season.
“It was the first time I was playing against the son of a former friend of mine. I thought it was time to stop.”
Former Juventus full-back Thuram has two sons – Marcus and Khéphren – who play in Ligue 1 for Guingamp and Monaco respectively.
“I also saw the other, Khéphren, who was on the bench when we faced Monaco,” added Buffon.
“It is nice to meet the children of all those comrades who I really loved and to whom I am still tied today.
“Playing against them is a gift from life, it is a little joy.”
