The 44-year-old found room for his compatriot Gianluigi Donnarumma on the list, naming the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper in second place behind the Belgian .

Following them was Germany's Manuel Neuer, with Jan Oblak and Mike Maignan completing the list.

27-year-old Maignan is perhaps the most surprising inclusion on Buffon's list, with the Frenchman yet to nail down a starting berth in his national side. Buffon is in the second season of his return to Serie B outfit Parma, having originally left the club to join Juventus in 2001. He was the most expensive goalkeeper in world football at the time - a record that stood until Alisson's move to Liverpool in 2018.
