Former Chelsea striker and manager Gianluca Vialli, who played 59 times for Italy, has unfortunately died at the age of 58.

The Italian was facing a long battle with pancreatic cancer which forced him to leave a role with Italy’s national team to focus on his health in December 2022. He was described as a ‘gorgeous soul’ by former Scotland defender Graeme Souness, who played alongside Vialli at Sampdoria.

This one just epitomises Vialli as a striker. A one-on-one at Old Trafford against arguably the greatest Premier League keeper ever is no easy feat, but the Italian made it look ever so simple.

In a match where Chelsea demolished Barnsley, Vialli scooped up a ridiculous four goals. Here’s the pick of the bunch.

8: Vialli vs Inter Milan

Vialli was a master at reading situations. He had the Inter Milan keeper on absolute toast here after a beautiful touch when he was playing with Sampdoria in Italy.

7: Vialli vs Aston Villa

A match in which he bagged a hat-trick, here was the best of the three as Vialli controls the ball with ease, turns his man and produces a clinical finish.

A true warrior in all elements, in a snowy away fixture in Norway, Vialli dazzled the Tromso defence and coolly (no pun intended) slotted past the goalkeeper. Marvellous stuff.

A goal against his former club Sampdoria for Juventus, Vialli expertly carried the ball from midfield with a neat dummy before making his way into the box and rifling one home at the near post.

Now we get to the acrobatic efforts, a trademark for Vialli. The third comes during his Sampdoria days. The Italian found himself smack bang in the middle of the box and produced a stunning overhead kick which flew past a helpless Empoli keeper.
