Roma defender Gianluca Mancini was one of the players who scored against CSKA Sofia in the Conference League on Thursday night. The 24-year-old spoke after the match and detailed his relationship with Jose Mourinho and the celebration following his goal of the night.

“I hugged him after the goal because he had told me to stay in defense, I felt I could score and I went up. I went there to tell him.”

“He brought us mentality, from the first training he showed us many things. He wants them every day on the pitch, there is no session where we go slowly. His mentality and desire to teach us what he knows keeps us on track. He makes all of us feel important.”

On the enthusiasm that Mourinho brought to the city:

“The enthusiasm of the people must continue to be like the one of the first six games.”

“Roma and its fans always show it, they always make themselves heard. It always has to be like that and it’s good. Then we know that we have played six games, we are creating a team with new principles and we know we have to work on many tactical and mental aspects.”

On the reaction once the team went down a goal:

“I am someone who on the pitch talks a lot. I try to understand my mistakes or those of my teammates so as not to repeat them.”

“We confronted each other because we could have done better, conceding goals at the beginning is not good. We need to improve to become more solid, but conceding a goal like this was avoidable. It was simply a matter of clarifying it with my teammates.”

On Roma playing much more vertically going forward:

“The way of playing has changed compared to last year. Our principle is intensity. In the second goal we recovered a ball thanks to Shomurodov.”

“There were a lot of long balls because we saw the possibility of sending our attackers on goal. We try but then we have to be good at tightening the formation.”
