Roma’s latest signing, Daniele Ghilardi, spoke to Radio Radio Web about his first days with the Giallorossi during their training camp in St. George’s Park.

On the match against Aston Villa, Ghilardi said, “I’m happy, especially to have made my debut, even if it was just a friendly. It’s a shame about the result, but I’m trying to understand the team’s movements and what the coach wants. I’ve only just arrived, but I’m working hard to give my all.”

“I’ll definitely be a gladiator on the pitch, that’s what I do best. No, I don’t feel any pressure, on the contrary, I’m very happy and I can’t wait to get started.”

“I always looked up to Ramos and Van Dijk. Honestly, I have no preference as for my position on the pitch. In the national team, we almost always played with a back four, except in the last two. At Sampdoria, I was a central defender in a back three, at Verona, a wing-back. I’ve tried them all, I adapt and feel good in every role.”

“Gasperini? One of his ideas is to play with a lot of intensity, to attack the player, to take away space and time from the opponent. He demands a lot from us physically and mentally.”

“Let’s start from the assumption that everything can be improved, but one thing I’m working on is my aerial game, both in defense and attack. One thing I feel strong in is my ability to read situations, but that’s not for me to say.”

“Who surprised me the most in training? Physically, I’d say Manu Koné, I already knew him before. One player who really surprised me, even technically, is Mario Hermoso: he has great quality and is a wonderful person.”

On whether he would play in midfield if required, “If the coach asks me, I’ll also play in goal! I was a midfielder at Fiorentina until the Under 17/18 team, so yes, I’d gladly do it.”

“I’d say Cristante and Mancini are the biggest ball busters, but that makes sense. They’re veterans, and it’s right that they guide the young players.”
