Ghana Premier League provides monetary incentives to drive growth of women’s game | OneFootball

The Malta Guinness Premier League, the highest women’s division in Ghana, has introduced extra incentivised funding for the 2024/25 season. The funding will be distributed amongst the winning players and managers at the end of season awards in their respective fields.

The aim of the investment is to further incentivise growth of women’s football in Ghana. The Ghanian FA has previously created funding for women’s clubs in Ghana alongside a women’s coaching pathway. The aim of the pathway was to decrease the gender gap in the country between coaches by offering 40 women coaches specialised training.

The Malta Guinness Premier League head of marketing, Dinah Adu Asare, met with media to discuss the funding.

“As we reflect on the past two years heading into [the new season] we are filled with immense pride.”

Extra funding necessary for Ghana Premier League football

Adu Asare continued to outline the importance of matching the teams’ ambitions with funding and financial backing.

“We’ve had the privilege of witnessing not only the sheer brilliance and talent of the these young women, but also their resilience, passion and dedication to this sport. In further support of excellence, this season we are proud to introduce cash awards for best player and best coach of the season in both the Southern and Northern zones.”

Headline sponsor Malta Guinness will be footing the bill for these added incentives. The amounts for each award is 10,000 Ghanian Cedi, equating to just under £600.
