Ghana FA funds coaching courses for 40 women with aim to close the gender gap

The Ghana FA has once again shown commitment to women within football, having previously set aside enhanced funding for the Women’s Premier League in November 2023. This time, the GFA has funded, arranged and held coaching courses specifically for women in Prampram.

The course is held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence and will run until the end of February 2024. Attendance was capped at 40 women and all available places were accounted for as the course got underway in late January.

The course consisted of the fundamentals of coaching, alongside specifics such as the concept of grassroots. Understanding a coach’s role as an educator was highlighted as another core feature of the course. Charles Frimpong has been leading the sessions.

Alongside the participants on-field and theory activities, there were also health-based qualifications. Invaluable skills such as proper first aid and cardiovascular resuscitation training were delivered.

The aim by the Ghana FA is to increase the number of females in coaching and in turn, reduce the gender gap in coaching throughout Ghana.
