Getafe midfielder Marc Cucurella has taken to Twitter to deny using racist language towards Real Madrid’s Éder Militão in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Los Blancos.

Cucurella, who is on loan from Barcelona, was accused of using the word “mico” (Spanish for monkey) during an altercation with the Brazil defender.

However, Cucurella claims she used the word “pico”, which is Spanish slang for mouth.

The 21-year-old Spaniard wrote: “I want to make it clear that at no time did I insult or belittle Militao. My words were ‘cierra el p*** pico’ (shut your f***ing mouth).

“I apologise if anyone was offended by this. This is the only statement I have made and the only one I will make about it.”

Militao, who joined Real from Porto last year for a reported €50m, has not discussed the incident and Real declined to comment.

Real’s other centre-back Raphaël Varane scored twice in the game at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, while Luka Modric added a third in the closing stages.
